Kilkenny County Council Library Service is delighted to bring you a wonderful Spring into Storytime programme of storytelling and family friendly events this April. This annual library programme is designed to encourage young children to develop a love for reading and storytelling. Sophie Walsh Executive Librarian, at Kilkenny County Council Libraries speaking about the initiative says, “Spring Into Storytime is a wonderful opportunity for children to experience the joy of reading and storytelling. We hope that this program will encourage children to become lifelong learners and avid readers.”
Reading with children and access to books has many important long-term benefits. Children who develop an interest in stories and reading have been found to have greater self-esteem and well-being, greater creativity and imagination, better social and health outcomes, and an overall better quality of life as they get older. The Spring into Storytime initiative is a creative way in which children’s literacy skills can be developed.
