Graded Readers
We have a large selection of Graded Readers in all our library branches in Kilkenny. These are an excellent choice for new readers as the books become slightly more difficult with each level. They are ideal for building confidence and children feel a real sense of accomplishment when they finish a book. There is a fantastic choice of stories in all of the series.
For example, DK Readers offer a wide range of superhero stories whilst the Early Readers books cover everything from Horrid Henry to Pokémon. For children starting to read we have a great range including series by Oxford Reading Tree, Reading Ladder and Literacy Tower.
Children with Dyslexia
Does your child struggle to read due to dyslexia or visual stress or are they reluctant to engage with books and read for pleasure?
Barrington Stoke is one series of books in Kilkenny Libraries to help children unlock a love of reading and build confidence. They have a unique, specially created font to make reading easier and the paper is also heavier with a gentle tint to help reduce visual stress. The stories are ideal for children of all ages and contain lots of illustrations to break up the text.
