Mayfair Library

The Mayfair Library was officially opened to the public on the 24th of April 2024. This new purpose-built library transformed the site of the former Mayfair Ballroom, and it is now a key feature of the Abbey Quarter development in the heart of Kilkenny City. This new library is a vibrant, welcoming and inclusive space for the community of Kilkenny City and County, and has already established itself as a significant community hub.

This 1,800 m2 facility spreads across two floors and features dedicated areas for adult fiction and non-fiction, an area for teenagers and a large and bright children's area. Visitors can also enjoy a community room with exhibition space, a meeting room, a study area, public PCs, as well as a laptop borrowing facility and an interactive Magic Table. Upstairs our Maker Space is complete with 3D printers, laptops and a heat press. The Mayfair library offers a dynamic programme of free workshops, classes and events throughout the year. The Mayfair library is proud to hold LEED Gold certification and provides resources like ESKER Environmental Science Kits and Home Energy testing kits. The library operates as a My Open Library, offering extended access during unstaffed hours—please speak to staff for details. Adding to its unique character, the library also showcases the Palimpsest art installation.
