Storyteller in Residence
Kilkenny County Council invites applications for a Storyteller in Residence. The residency runs from September to December 2023, and will be managed by Kilkenny County Council Library Service.
The Storyteller in Residence will deliver a programme of activities designed to promote literacy and foster the habit of enjoyment of reading and library usage amongst children and young people.
Outline of the Residency
The residency will involve engagement with children through community groups and schools, centered round their local library. The residency will also provide opportunities for parents and children to explore and enjoy reading and other family literacy activities together.
The resident, in partnership with Kilkenny County Council Library Service, will develop a programme of activity to be delivered over the course of the residency period, which will result in agreed outcomes. The resident will furnish monthly activity reports, an interim report after 8 weeks and a comprehensive report at the end of the residency period.
An agreed budget will be provided for the resident to develop a programme of events.
The residency will be for a period of 4 months from September 2023 and will involve 21 hours preparation and contact hours per week over 16 weeks from 4th September – 22nd December. The programme will be deliverable across our library service, through Castlecomer, Kilkenny City and Graiguenamanagh libraries.

Application Procedure
Please note applications should be made by sending the following information as ONE single attachment (either in PDF or word format) incorporating all of the below required information:
- - An up-to-date CV, including the names and contact details of two professional references;
- - A written submission of interest which outlines workshop ideas and approaches to the residency. (1,000 words maximum)
- - Examples of previous similar and relevant work especially working in the area of literacy and young people, including how you might be best suited to the role (maximum 2 pages).

The completed application documents should be forwarded by email to arrive no later than 5pm on Thursday 13th July 2023. Late applications will not be accepted.
