Our annual Summer Stars Reading Adventure for children begins Monday 9th June 2025

What you need to get started:

  • A current library membership: Parents/guardians can sign up new members by visiting your local library.
  • Summer Stars Reading Booklet: Collect your Booklet from your local library

How does it work?

  • The adventure is to read/listen to 8 books and visit your library 3 times over the Summer.
  •  Borrow books from our libraries or download eBooks/eAudiobooks/eComics from our online collection.
  •  On your second visit collect your library bag, pencil and bookmark.
  •  Record your progress on the reading booklet/bookmark and bring it into the library to have it signed / stamped by staff.
  • Watch out for regular events, story times and crafts in libraries, online quizzes and recommendations on our website and on our social media channels.

Finishing the adventure

  • When you have read 8 books, visit the library to collect your certificate and medal.
  • The adventure finishes on Saturday 31st August.

Summer Stars National Reading Adventure 2025

Summer Stars is the public library national summer reading programme for children that runs from the start of June until the end of August. All children throughout the country are invited to join the adventure and to enjoy the fun and pleasure of reading and writing over the summer. Summer Stars is non-competitive and every child who reads even one book/e-book is regarded as having completed the programme – and it’s all completely free!
